Day 1 - Pastor Paul Andrews
Satisfied - Day 1
Today, I want to reflect on something Jim Carrey once shared in a speech. Here’s how it went: the announcer came on and said, “Welcome, two-time Golden Globe winner, Jim Carrey.” So Jim Carrey came to the stage, smiled big, and said, “Hello, I’m two-time Golden Globe Award winner Jim Carrey, and when I go to sleep tonight for some much-needed rest, I don’t go to sleep as a normal person. I go to sleep as the two-time Golden Globe Award winner Jim Carrey. And I dream. And when I dream, I dream that one day I would become the three-time Golden Globe Award winner Jim Carrey, because then I would be enough. Then I would make it, and then this endless search would stop.”
It was so funny because he had the Hollywood stars there, and they all knew what he was talking about—this endless search that every human being on the planet is on to find satisfaction.
Now, I’m here to tell you this, and I hope that you personally discover this during these 21 days of prayer and fasting: you cannot find satisfaction apart from a relationship with God. And so, I want to read from Psalm 63. It says this: “Oh God, you are my God. Earnestly I search for you. My soul thirsts for you. My whole body longs for you in a parched and weary land where there is no water.”
I’m here to tell you this: in the world, there is no water that will satisfy the thirst of the human soul except for God. It goes on and says some great things, but verse 5 says this: “You satisfy me more than the richest feast. I will praise you with songs of joy.” And during the fast, oddly enough, the theme of the fast is kind of paradoxical. The theme of the fast is that you would find satisfaction in Him. And you can find it. Don’t look to the world. You can waste a lifetime in that process. Look to be satisfied in Him.
Let’s pray.
Father, I thank You that during this fast, I pray for everyone who is participating in this, that we would find our satisfaction in You and in You alone. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
